10012 Tmutarakania (1978 RE3) is a main-belt asteroid discovered on September 3, 1978 by Nikolai Chernykh and Lyudmila Karachkina at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory. It is named after the principality of Tmutarakan which existed between the 10th and 12th centuries on the Taman Peninsula bordering the Black Sea.
